Hiking in Tyrol

More than twenty-one 3,000-meter peaks and numerous glaciers attract mountain enthusiasts to the Obergurgl-Hochgurgl region. Visitors have so many trails to choose from, they will never get bored as they climb up to glacier moraines. The unrivalled Oetz Valley Nature Park is a natural Alpine zoo where many cute woodchucks and herds of mountain sheep and goats roam around freely.
Mountain lovers can go on a comfortable hike in which they visit four of the huts of the Austrian Alpine Association: Schönwies Hut (2,262 meters), Ramol Hut (3005 m), Hochwilde Hut (2,866 meters), and Karlsruher Hut (2,430 m). They may also go on theme-hikes in which they explore the history of this spectacular scenery. The hikes run the gamut from “garnet seeking,” the “Piccard hike” to the “smugglers’ hike.” The Hohe Mut glacier lift (2,670 m) will take you comfortably to a mountain top that affords one of the most beautiful views of the twenty-one 3,000-meter peaks.
